Chief Justice of India (CJI) SA Bobde yesterday (27 March) lauded Goa's uniform civil code and called on academics who often talk about it to visit the State and witness the administration of justice under it, reports Times of India.

Inaugurating the new High Court building in Goa's Porvorim, CJI Bobde boasted that he has had the privilege of administering justice under the State's uniform civil code.

CJI Bobde elaborated, "It applies in marriages and succession, governing all Goans irrespective of religious affiliation. I have heard a lot of academics talk about the uniform civil code. I would request all those intellectuals to simply come here and watch the administration of justice to know what it turns out to be."

CJI Bobde underscored that the State of Goa already has what the framers of the Constitution envisaged for the whole of India.

Having served on the Goan Constitution bench of the Bombay High Court, CJI Bobde also added that it is the only bench that gives such a variety of experiences and challenges. He explained that one can expect to hear a land acquisition case, a Section 302 murder appeal, public interest litigation, a question under the administrative law, income tax, sales tax, and excise law.
