Coast Guard Apprehends Pakistani Fishing Boat Carrying High Amount Of Drugs Off The Gujarat Coast

Indian Coast guard (ICG) on Tuesday (21 May) apprehended a Pakistani fishing boat 'Al Madina' with six crew members near the Jakhau coast in Gujarat. During the initial search, the Coast Guard found 194 packets of suspected Narcotics substance on the boat, reports ANI.

According to an official statement, after receiving intelligence inputs about a suspected vessel likely to be engaged in drug trafficking in area of Indo-Pak International Maritime Border Line (IMBL), the ICG swung into action and its ship Arinjay intercepted the Pakistani fishing boat inside Indian waters near the Jakhau coast in .

A boarding party of ICG searched the boat and found 194 packets of suspected narcotics substance on the fishing boat. The vessel was then escorted to Jakhau harbour for detailed investigation and rummaging, said the statement.

Earlier on 24 March, ICG ship Rajratan in joint operation with Gujarat’s Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) seized about 100 kg of heroin from a suspected Pakistani Dhow off the coast of Gujarat apprehending nine Iranian crew of the vessel.

ICG director general Rajendra Singh said that the Coast Guard has been at the forefront in anti-narcotics and anti-smuggling operations and since inception has seized contraband worth of more than Rs 5000 crore.
