Uttar Pradesh (UP) is fast emerging successful in containing Covid-19 second wave and monitoring committees have a great role to play in this success.

Monitoring committees consisting of representatives of civil society groups such as Asha, Anganwadi and ANM, are conducting more than one lakh tests done in rural areas of the state everyday.

The tests are being conducted by the Rapid Response Teams (RRTs). They act as a shield to protect people from the disease by identifying positive cases and facilitating treatment as fast as possible, reports ZEE News.

While the monitoring committee identifies suspected cases, RRTs visit their residences and conduct tests.

As a proof for the success of the Yogi Government's mantra of 'test, trace and treat' against the novel coronavirus, out of total 2.99 lac tests conducted on Wednesday (19 May) more than 2.19 lacs tests were conducted in the rural area.

More than four lakh members of 60,589 monitoring committees have visited 79,512 villages and detected infections in 28,742 villages.

Also, the Yogi Government has started a special sanitation campaign in rural areas to prevent the virus from spreading. UP is the first state in the country where a sanitation drive has been undertaken on such a large scale in rural areas.

Yesterday, while the state reported 19,669 recoveries, it reported just 7,186 new cases though tests have increased thus indicating a rapid decline in active cases.
