Former Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) chief James Comey said in his testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee today (8 June) that the Trump administration lied about him and the intelligence agency.
According to a BBC report, Comey was “confused” by the “shifting explanations” for being fired from the top job at FBI as he was told repeatedly by the United States President Donald Trump that he was doing a “great” job.
Comey said at the hearing that the Trump administration “chose to defame me, and more importantly the FBI”, said the BBC report. “Those were lies, plain and simple. And I'm so sorry that the FBI workforce had to hear them.”
The sacked FBI chief was leading the investigation into alleged links between the Trump campaign and Moscow before he was fired.
