Aiming to give an air travel-like entertainment to its passengers on trains and stations, the Indian Railways will soon provide an option to stream high-quality movies, videos and more reports Financial Express.

Once the project is implemented, passengers can enjoy watching movies, TV serials, news, videos and listen to songs using personal devices through a free app. Media servers will be brought in to ensure a buffer-free service.

The Piyush Goyal led Railway Ministry has selected RailTel to roll out the project. The ‘Mini-Ratna’ enterprise of the national transporter is expected to issue a Request for Proposal on the same in early-August, sources told FE.

The pilot project will provide preloaded entertainment content in the railway stations which currently offer RailTel’s free Wi-Fi service. Once the expansive plan of enabling Wi-Fi stations over 4,000 railway stations across the country is materialised, the content on-demand app can be used in all the stations and trains.

In the meantime, the Railways is planning to earn revenue from advertisements that can be displayed on the landing pages and in pre-rolls of videos.
