Citing increasing number of Covid-19 cases Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa today (Saturday) evening announced that complete lockdown will be imposed in both Bengaluru rural and urban districts for a week. The lockdown shall begin from 8pm on 14 July (Tuesday) and last until 5am on 22 July.
The state of Karnataka had today seen confirmation of 2,798 Covid-19 infections and 70 deaths in a singe day - the biggest spurt the state has seen so far. Bengaluru urban alone recorded 1,533 cases.
The state has so far seen 36,216 Covid-19 cases including 613 fatalities. Some 14,716 cases have been discharged and a little more than 20,000 cases are classified as active. Of these 20,379 infected persons have been kept at designated hospitals in the state.
While the Chief Minister praised the efforts of health care workers he urged people to take precautions while going out to buy essential supplies.
