The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has communicated a letter to the central government calling for a ban on the upcoming festive season sales of e-commerce giants Flipkart and Amazon, reports Reuters.
The body claims that both the companies deploy deep discounting practices which are in contravention of foreign investment rules that govern online retail.
"By offering deep discounts ranging from 10% to 80% on their e-commerce portals, these companies are clearly influencing the prices and create an uneven level playing field which is in direct contravention of the policy," the letter stated.
Flipkart’s festive season sale will begin on 29 September ahead of Dussehra and Diwali, even as Amazon as yet to reveal its dates. CAIT, which counts 500,000 traders as its members, wants the government to implement a blanket ban on both these sales periods and begin investigating the companies for violation of FDI norms.
