The rift in the Madhya Pradesh Congress was out in the open as two of its top leaders Digvijaya Singh and Jyotiraditya Scindia had a verbal spat in the presence of party President Rahul Gandhi, India Today has reported.

The incident happened during a meeting of the Congress’ central election cell which was being chaired by Rahul Gandhi. The two leaders engaged in a verbal spat with each other during the meeting.

Digvijaya Singh is the chief of the coordination committee for Madhya Pradesh assembly election while Jyotiraditya Scindia is the chief of campaign committee of Madhya Pradesh Congress.

The meeting of the election cell was convened in order to finalise the list of candidates who will be contesting in the assembly election in Madhya Pradesh. The elections in the state are slated for 28 November.

According to the report, Scindia and Digvijaya had a spar over the choice of candidates and distribution of tickets as both Congress leaders were having their own preferences and reservations.

Both leaders were not ready for any sort of compromise in their position forcing Rahul Gandhi to intervene and set up a three-member committee to solve the issue.

Ahmed Patel, Veerappa Moily and Ashok Gehlot sat till 2.30 am on Thursday (1 November) in the Congress’ war room at Gurudwara Rakabganj Road in New Delhi in order to resolve the issue. As per the report, party members have been instructed not to speak on the ongoing tussle between the two party leaders.
