With a spike of 9,987 new cases in the last 24 hours, India's total case count of coronavirus jumped to 266,598, the Union Health Ministry data revealed on Tuesday (9 June).
According to the Health Ministry, of the total, 129,917 are active cases while at least 129,215 people have been cured of the disease.
At least 266 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the total fatality count to 7,466.
Maharashtra, which has emerged as the worst Coronavirus-hit state in the country, has so far recorded 88, cases, including 3,169 fatalities, and 40,975 recoveries. Tamil Nadu followed with 33,229 cases. The Covid-19 tally in Delhi has crossed the 29,000-mark with as many as 29,943 cases recorded so far in the national capital. Gujarat has reported 20,545 cases so far.
States with most casualties after Maharashtra are Gujarat (1,280), Delhi (874), Madhya Pradesh (414), and West Bengal (405).
States with more than 8,000 cases are Uttar Pradesh (10,947), Rajasthan (10,763) and Madhya Pradesh (9,638).
Among other states/UTs where Corona cases have surged past 2,000-mark are West Bengal (8,613), Karnataka (5,760), Bihar (5,202), Haryana (4,854), Andhra Pradesh (4,851), Jammu and Kashmir (4,285), Telangana (3,650), Odisha (2,994), Assam (2,776), Punjab (2,663) and Kerala (2,005).
According to the Health Ministry, 8,803 cases are being re-assigned to states.
