Amid the state wide ban imposed on sale of liquor, a Kerala man alleged to be suffering from severe withdrawal symptoms has committed suicide, reports India Today.

As per police, the man, identified as 38-year-old Sanoj Kulangara, was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his house in Kunnakulam (Thrissur district).

Sanoj’s family has also confirmed that he was an alcoholic and suffered severe withdrawal symptoms after the ban, a police official was quoted as saying as per report.

It should be noted that, Kerala government had suspended the sale of liquor through state-run Bevco outlets till 14 April, bringing the state under total prohibition. The decision was taken after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a 21-day lockdown that requires citizens to remain home, except to access essential services.

Earlier, Kerala’s tourism minister informed that four people had been admitted in Thiruvananthapuram’s hospitals with withdrawal symptoms.
