With a spike of 6,566 new cases in the last 24 hours, India's total case count of coronavirus jumped to 158,333, the Union Health Ministry data revealed on Thursday (28 May).
According to the Health Ministry, of the total, 86,110 are active cases while at least 67,692 people have been cured of the disease.
At least 194 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the total fatality count to 4,531.
Maharashtra, which has emerged as the worst Coronavirus-hit state in the country, has so far recorded 56.948 cases, including 1,897 fatalities and 17,918 recoveries. Tamil Nadu followed with 18,545 cases and Gujarat with 15,195 cases. The Covid-19 tally in Delhi has crossed the 15,000-mark with as many as 15,257 cases recorded so far in the national capital.
States with most casualties after Maharashtra are Gujarat (938), Madhya Pradesh (313), Delhi (303), and West Bengal (289).
States with more than 6,000 cases are Rajasthan (7,703), Madhya Pradesh (7,261) and Uttar Pradesh (6,991).
Among other states/UTs where corona cases have surged past 2,000-mark are West Bengal (4,192), Andhra Pradesh (3,171), Bihar (3,061), Karnataka (2,418), Punjab (2,139) and Telangana (2,098).
According to the Health Ministry, 4,332 cases are being re-assigned to states.
