In the biggest single-day spurt of confirmed COVID-19 cases in India so far, on Saturday (27 June) the nation witnessed the emergence of 20,060 fresh cases which is higher than Friday's tally by more than 1,500 cases, reports Times of India.
With this, the total number of Covid-19 cases have reached 5,29,533 while active cases crossed the 2-lakh mark even as the number of patients who have recovered rose to nearly 3.1 lakh.
Maharashtra reported the biggest spike in total cases with the emergence of 6,368 new cases. Mumbai too reported more than 2,000 cases which is the highest single-day figure reported by the city so far.
Apart from Maharashtra, at least nine other Union Territories (UTs) and States reported their highest single-day figure. This includes Tamil Nadu with 3,713 cases, Telangana with 1,087 cases, Karnataka with 918 cases, Andhra Pradesh with 796 cases, Gujarat with 615 cases, Bihar with 301 cases, Kerala with 195 cases, Goa with 89 cases and Puducherry with 87 cases.
Meanwhile, other States and UTs which reported a high number of new cases were Delhi with 2,948 cases, Uttar Pradesh with 607 cases, Haryana with 543 cases and West Bengal with 521 cases.
The total number of casualties also rose past 16,000-mark with 414 patients succumbing to the viral disease. The total deaths reported so far stands at 16,095.
