CPM Stares At Strong Possibility Of Winning Zero Seats In West Bengal; Holds Raniganj As Its Last Hope

Bearing witness to its ever dwindling presence in the Indian political theatre, the CPM is staring yet another loss in form of its former bastion West Bengal, having already lost Tripura to BJP, reports Times of India.

The report claims that CPM’s Raniganj candidate Mohammed Salim is the party’s best shot at avoiding a duck in the state.

Currently, CPM has two sitting MPs in the state, representing Murshidabad and Raniganj. With the TMC and BJP taking centre stage of the battle, CPM is trying its best to save some grace by trying to retain the incumbent seats. Mohammad Salim, contesting from Raniganj may be CPM’s best bet.

Bikash Bhattacharya from Jadhavpur and Fuad Halim from Diamond Harbour --where Mamata Banerjee’s controversial nephew Abhishek Banerjee is contesting from TMC -- are hoping to finish runners up.

It was recently reported that the grassroots level cadre of the CPM have begun supporting the BJP to achieve the common goal of ousting Mamata Banerjee and the Trinamool establishment.

It is claimed that BJP poll managers and CPM ground workers are holding regular meetings, plan door-to-door campaigns and keep a vigil at polling booths on election day. Like the BJP, the CPM is also said to be suffering at the hands of the ruling TMC.

Some CPM workers have also coined, 'Unishey half, Ekushey saaf' (Half in 2019 and saaf in 2021), which shows its plan to oust TMC out of Bengal by 2021 assembly elections.
