Back in power, Chief Minister (CM) Manohar Lal Khattar has started cracking down on pollution contributors in Haryana's millennium city of Gurugram, as the city is set to ban diesel auto rickshaws from its streets beginning January 2020, reports the Times of India.
As per the action plan, which is being implemented from January 2020, apart from diesel auto rickshaws, even auto rickshaws older than ten years will be barred from plying on the streets of Gurugram, paving the way for CNG-run auto rickshaws to offer environmentally-friendly transport solutions to the masses.
To ensure swift implementation of the action plan in this regard, the traffic police and Regional Transport Authority (RTA) officials have launched a campaign to create awareness among auto rickshaw drivers in key areas like Rajiv Chowk and few other such places in the city.
It should be noted though that the action plan to ban the diesel-run auto rickshaws was announced much in advance. Also, as per RTA officials, as many as 20,000 such auto-rickshaws operate on the roads of Gurugram presently.
