As per reports, Harbhajan posted this story on the thirty-seventh anniversary of Operation Blue Star which was launched in 1984 to capture Bhindranwale and his associates from the Golden Temple who wanted to carve out a separate nation of Khalisthan through their secessionist violence. He was subsequently killed in action by the Indian security forces.

Harbhajan reportedly hailed Bhindranwale as a martyr and offered him his pranaam. The poster of Bhindranwale reportedly states "Live with pride, die for the religion".

Many cricket fans and social media users have as a result slammed Harbhajan for the story which now seems to have been deleted from his account. He is yet to either address the controversy or issue an apology for his actions.

Harbhajan Singh has represented India in 220 tests and 113 ODIs in a career spanning 18 years. He is currently an IPL player with the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Yesterday (6 June) posters of Bhindranwale and Khalistani flags were also seen in the Golden Temple, which as per reports, has also occurred in the past during the anniversary of Operation Blue Star.
