Citing the figures till July, the Yogi Adityanath government has claimed a significant reduction in crime rate in Uttar Pradesh, reports The Economic Times.

Nearly 10,000 criminals got their bail cancelled and surrendered to go to jail. Rapes have reduced to 2444 cases between January and July this year compared to 2614 cases in the same period last year.

“An effective campaign has been launched across criminals in the state leading to 63 dreaded criminals being killed and 650 being injured in encounters and 3430 wanted criminals being arrested and sent to jail. In year 2018 so far, 9866 criminals have got their bail cancelled and presented themselves before courts to go to jail. 14746 criminals were booked under Gangsters Act. Criminals no longer have political shelter. A good atmosphere has been created for investment," Economic Times quoted Uttar Pradesh BJP spokesperson Chandra Mohan as saying.

The state last year underwent a major administrative reshuffle in which the government drew up a list of efficient bureaucrats and senior police officials to be posted at strategic locations in a bid to improve the law and order situation in the state, ABP News had reported in April.

Under Adityanath’s drive to improve law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh, the state police has gunned down at least 30 criminals in numerous encounters since March 2017, The Hindu has reported earlier this year.
