The cause of rebuilding and strengthening the state of Odisha, which was recently ravaged by Cyclone Fani, is gaining support across the spectrum as not only individuals and companies, but also governments of other states have started to lend in support to the Odisha's Chief Minister's Relief Fund (CMRF), reports The Hindu BusinessLine.
The Karnataka Government on Thursday (9 May 2019) announced Rs 10 crore as a relief and assistance fund to help alleviate the cyclone-affected people of Odisha. This comes after Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar had contributed Rs 1 crore towards the cause and corporate major Adani Group had promised Rs 25 crore to Odisha's CMRF.
"In view of huge loss of life and property in Odisha on account of the 'Fani' cyclone, it is proposed to contribute a sum of Rs 10 crore to assist the affected people," the Karnataka government said.
As of Wednesday (8 May 2019) the official toll of casualties in the cyclone-battered had risen to 41 individuals. The cyclone which had made a landfall at the holy temple city of Puri, impacting major infrastructure including power and water distribution networks across the affected areas.
