Dating-To-Discover: Tinder Survey Says Young Indians Pride ‘Experiences’ Over Marriage And ‘Asset Acquisition’

A study by dating app Tinder has revealed that young Indians between 18 and 26 are investing a minimum of five years on self-discovery, reports LiveMint.

It also shows that 56 per cent of the above age group wants to make their parents proud, 56 per cent wants to build a strong friendship, 52 per cent wants to finish education, and 42 per cent wants to explore the world and meet different people.

These 18-25-year-olds also want to pursue a field they are passionate about and use dating as a way to learn about themselves.

The Tinder study was conducted in the top 20 cities, and covered more than 2,000 respondents in two months.

Marriage and having kids are relatively low priorities for these respondents, both men and women. They want to “collect experiences” more than “accumulating assets”.

Taru Kapoor, General Manager of Tinder India, says that with rising education levels accompanied by urban mobility, Gen Z wants to have the freedom to explore careers and relationships, self-identity and self-expression, basically the direction of their lives.

He states, “So this life stage, before officially adulting, has acquired a new meaning and cultural significance. Tinder’s research and insights in India show Gen Z has questions regarding their own identity, their place in the world and the relationships they forge with like-minded people.”
