Delhi Farmer Buys Flight Tickets For 10 Migrant Workers To Send Them Home In Bihar

A Delhi farmer bought flight tickets to send 10 of his workers home in Bihar as they were stranded in Delhi ever since the lockdown was announced.

Mushroom farmer Pappan Gehlot bought flight tickets for the workers as they had worked with him for over 20 years, Hindustan Times reported.

“We tried to book trains tickets but were unable to do it. Then we thought these people have been working with us for over 20 years, their journey should be safe. So we got them medically examined and arranged flight tickets for them,” Pappan’s brother Niranjan Gehlot was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

After their ways to return home got cleared, workers said it was a dream come true.

“I had never thought I will get to sit in an aeroplane, our employer made the arrangements for us,” said one of the workers after arriving at the Indira Gandhi International Airport for their 6 am flight to Patna on Thursday (28 May).

Some of them said they could not believe they were going by plane and not walking or cycling all the way home which was thousands of kilometres away.

Pappan Gehlot had been taking care of their accommodation and food for over two months due to the lockdown, according to 50-year-old Ram who worked for him.
