The Delhi High Court on 12 July imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on a woman for filing a false complaint of sexual harassment against her senior. Delivering the judgment, the court noted that the woman's petition had no merit, reports The Hindu.

Delivering the judgment, Justice J R Midha said that the petitioner would have to deposit a sum of Rs 50,000 with the Delhi High Court Advocates Welfare Trust within four weeks.

Furthermore, the court also stated that the organisation where the petitioner woman worked was free to choose to initiate appropriate action against her for filing a false complaint against a senior employee in accordance with the law.

In her complaint, the woman had claimed that she had been sexually harassed by her senior in 2011, and had alleged that the man had misbehaved and made sexual advances towards her.

It should be noted that even though the woman had claimed that the incidence of her harassment had taken place in the presence of the staff and other members but during the inquiry proceedings she had not been able to give the name of any such person present at the time.
