A court in Delhi has found a man guilty of bursting non-green crackers in violation of the Supreme Court’s directions last year on 8 November, reports The Indian Express.
The man was arrested last year when a policeman saw him bursting crackers and verbally warned him about the Supreme Court order. The policeman maintained that the man did not pay any heed to his warning and went on with bursting the non-green crackers.
He was then taken into custody and booked under Section 188 of the IPC which deals with disobeying a public servant’s order.
Last year, the apex court had banned the sale of non-green crackers in the national capital ahead of Diwali, noting that the problem of pollution was worsened by the practice.
The ban however, did not see effective implementation, with people in Delhi bursting the prohibited crackers well into the night, even as the court had given a 10 pm time limit for the same.
