Speaking at a press conference, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday (19 April) said that the national capital paid the price of the Markaz event and inflow of foreign travellers, reports Hindustan Times.

It should be noted that Markaz, where thousands of Tablighi Jamaat followers had gathered last month, has emerged as the hotspot of coronavirus disease Covid-19.

“Delhi paid the price of markaz incident and inflow of travellers from other countries,” Kejriwal reportedly said.

He further added, “For the last few days, coronavirus cases in Delhi are on a rise. We have also conducted more testing in the past few days. Yesterday, we got the report of 736 cases. Out of 736, 186 were positive.”

He, however, stated that although the covid-19 was spreading rapidly in Delhi, the situation was “still under control”.

He also announced that there will be no relaxations in the lockdown from Monday in capital city until a review meeting with experts is held on 27 April.

The CM said, “Delhi has 11 districts and all of them have been declared hotspots. As per the central government, restrictions cannot be relaxed in containment zones.”

"Keeping in mind the lives of all Delhi residents, we have that there will be no relaxation in lockdown norms from tomorrow. We will sit in a meeting with all experts again on 27 April and review the situation. If need be, the lockdown norms will be relaxed after that," he was quoted as saying in an India Today report.
