Delhi Police yesterday (14 November) embarked on a massive crackdown on the use of firecrackers, seizing about 638 kilograms of those from different parts of the national capital, reports Livemint.
Delhi Police seized 352.6 kilograms of firecrackers from Dwarka, 226.4 kilograms from South West Delhi, 35.62 kilograms from South East Delhi and 15.8 kilograms from Outer North Delhi. In total though, so far, Delhi Police has seized 3,407.852 kilograms of firecrackers.
In total, so far, Delhi Police has registered 54 cases, while arresting 55 individuals for selling crackers. Yesterday alone, Delhi Police had registered 12 cases over the sale of crackers, while arresting 10 individuals.
Meanwhile, the force also registered 14 cases for bursting crackers, while booking a total of 12 individuals.
This comes as Chief Minister (CM) Arvind Kejriwal's Government in Delhi had banned the sale and use of crackers in the national capital days ahead of the festival, citing concerns over rising pollution.
