Delhi Police has issued a lookout notice against Olympic medalist Sushil Kumar, who has been absconding since 4 May after a wrestler died in a brawl at Chhatrasal Stadium.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, North West told IANS, "A Look our notice has been issued against Kumar."

He said that several teams have been formed to trace out alleged persons including Kumar. He further said that police are probing the role of Kumar as allegations have been made against him.

According to senior police officials, Kumar has been absconding after a 23-year-old ex-junior national champion Sagar Kumar was beaten to death during a brawl at Chhatrasal Stadium.

Sagar, son of a Delhi Police constable, passed away in a clash between two groups on the premises of the Chhatrasal stadium situated in northwest Delhi on late Tuesday night on 4 May.

Dr Guriqbal Singh Sandhu, Additional DCP of north-west Delhi, had told the Indian Express, “We are probing the role of Sushil Kumar as allegations have been made against him. We sent our team to his house but he was found to be missing. We are looking for him. Several teams have been formed to trace the accused persons.”

Apparently, two other individuals were injured in the brawl that included the likes of Sonu Mahal (35), Amit Kumar (27), and also Prince Dalal (24). The quarrel between Ajay, Prince, Amit, Sonu, Sagar and Sushil had broken out in the parking lot of the Chhatrasal stadium.

Police sources quoted in the report revealed that Sagar along with his friends was residing in a house linked to Kumar that is near to the mentioned stadium in the Model Town area. They were also asked to vacate the house recently.

“Sonu Mahal is a close associate of gangster Kala Jathedi and was earlier arrested in a robbery and murder case,” the sources from the police force said.

A call had been made from the Chhatrasal stadium to the police control room at around 2 am informing them about a firing incident. The caller informed that he had seen two men firing at each other with pistols but the police could only find five empty cars upon reaching the parking area.

“The accused…were huddled in cars and assaulted/attacked each other,” the FIR further quipped. Further details on Sushil Kumar’s involvement, in this case, are awaited. The 37-year-old is the only Indian athlete to have won consecutive individual Olympic medals.
