Delhi’s Signature Bridge, inaugurated by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal saying that he hopes for it to become a “tourist destination”, has turned into a picnic spot and is littered with garbage only a week post the inauguration, The Hindu has reported.
According to the report, hundreds of people are visiting and clicking pictures on the bridge, violating traffic rules. Vendors have set up stalls in order to cash in on the interest people are showing in the bridge.
Motorists are driving their vehicles on the wrong side of the road and are climbing on to their bikes and cars to take selfies on the bridge. In the process, they are posing dangerously on the bridge to get a good photo of themselves.
The bridge is littered with piles of garbage due to non-availability of dustbins to throw waste material. Many people are using the bridge for disposing waste material into river Yamuna. The corners of the bridge are already stained with pan-spit.
Commuters who are using the bridge daily are visiting it on weekend for picnics. Some commuters who visit the bridge have expressed their concern on the lack of the policing as several parts of the bridge are still under construction.
