The family member of BJP MLA Bhima Mandavi who lost his life in a Maoist attack on Tuesday (10 April) cast their votes on Thursday (12 April) in the Shamgiri area.
The family survived by his wife Ojaswi, ageing parents stood in line at the polling station at Shas High School compound to vote, they were accompanied with six of their relatives.
This vote came less than 48 hours after the BJP MLAs death. Following the voting, Mandavi’s family members raised their inked fingers as a defiance to the threat issued by the Maoists against voting.
Bhima’s wife broke down after casting her vote , “The entire family stands by me in this hour of crisis. All the voters in our family came together to cast their ballot. It’s a true tribute to Bhima Mandavi. I will work to fulfil his unfinished tasks.” reports Times of India.
In Shamgiri where Mandavi was killed, 77 per cent of voters turned up to vote. Over 57 per cent of the voters turned up to vote in the Bastar Lok Sabha seat in spite of threats from the Maoists.
Mandavi, 40, the lone BJP MLA from the Bastar region was killed along with four cops in an IED blast by Maoists in Kuakonda area.
