Even though a five point joint press release by India - China foreign ministries called for disengagement and de-escalation in Ladakh, news reports suggest that China is not likely to change its stance on the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

Citing senior government officials News18 claims that the ground situation will remain the same for now. The officials claim that there was no change in 'Beijing’s stated position after the over two-and-half-hour-long meeting between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi.'

In the forty eight hours leading up to the meeting China continued its build of troops in Eastern Ladakh, particularly around Finger 4 areas near Pangong lake.

In the meeting China appears to have tried to put forth that it is the Chinese side that has been wronged and that the Indian side should cease provocations such as firing.
