Independent candidate T T V Dinakaran has won the R K Nagar assembly seat in Tamil Nadu by a huge margin, leaving rivals All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) far behind.
The sidelined AIADMK leader declared himself “the true political heir” of J Jayalalithaa and vowed to bring down the current government in the state “within three months”.
Dinakaran got 89,013 votes winning by a huge margin of 40,000 votes. AIADMK’s E Madhusudhanan got 48,306 votes while DMK’s N Maruthu Ganesh received 24,651 votes.
The by-polls to the R K Nagar assembly seat, which fell vacant following the death of Jayalalithaa, was first scheduled to be held in April this year, but was cancelled due to complaints of voter bribery. This round of voting was also not free of controversy with cash for votes allegations.
