Dish TV Gets TRAI Notice For Forcing Packs On Subscribers, Not having Proper Grievance Redressal System

After close to a month of the new pricing framework being introduced by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the sector regulator has issued a notice to Dish TV for violating the new norms, reports Telecom Talk.

This follows a similar notice which was sent to another DTH company, Airtel Digital TV, which was rapped for providing channels to users without asking for their consent.

The notice to Dish TV reads, “the said DTH operator is forcefully offering a bouquet of free-to-air channels with no choice to subscribers and without their consent. This is in addition to the channels opted by the subscribers and the following message is being displayed: – This is a free to air bouquet at no extra charge. If you have selected any pay channel, then this bouquet will not impact your NCF.”

The notice also adds that subscribers are unable to communicate their grievances to Dish TV. The company has been asked to respond notice, dated 24 April, within five days.

Apart from trying to bring more transparency to the television broadcasting industry, TRAI is also looking to improve the quality of service norms. Each service provider has been directed to ensure that it has a toll free customer care number backed by enough connections and human resources.
