Bollywood movie Namaste England which stars Parineeti Chopra and Arjun Kapoor has courted controversy after its poster was found depicting a distorted map of India, Times of India has reported.
The movie directed by Vipul Amrutlal Shah is said to be a sequel of the 2007 film Namaste London. The movie will be released on 19 October.
This is the said poster in question:
As seen in the above image, a part of Jammu and Kashmir, also known as the Aksai Chin lies omitted from the Indian map sketched on the poster. Currently, this region is illegally occupied by the Chinese who administer it as part of their Hotan County.
As stated in the report, such a distortion of the Indian map is a violation of National Map Policy (2005). Besides this, misrepresentation of India’s boundaries is a punishable offence under the Criminal Law Amendment Act of 1961, which can result in both fine and a jail sentence.
The report claimed that filmmakers haven’t issued any official statement over this matter.
Incidentally, a few months back Amazon Web Services (AWS) too was under fire for a similar offence when it circulated brochures of their Global Summit in Mumbai, which had shown a significant portion of Jammu and Kashmir as Pakistani territory.
