In a major honour for the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the body operating the nation's largest modern metro rail network has been conferred with two awards at the 12th Urban Mobility India Conference and Expo 2019 held in Lucknow from 15-17 November, reports Asian News International (ANI).

One of the awards that Delhi Metro was awarded was for the 'Last Mile Connectivity' under the category of best non-motorised transport. The other award won by the Delhi Metro was for 'Green Metro project - An Initiative for Sustainable and Viable Urban Transport'.

DMRC was honoured with the prestigious awards for its initiatives to turn and promote Delhi Metro as a green and sustainable mode of transport, beginning its journey way back in 2002 with the launch of Red Line between Shahdara and Tis Hazari.

Presently, Delhi Metro maintains and operates around 350 km-long metro rail network in the Delhi-NCR region with over 250 metro stations established under nine colour-coded service lines.
