Domestic Airlines Traffic Rises By 4 Per Cent In October 2019, Total Passengers From Jan To Oct 19 At 11.82 Crores

The domestic air passenger traffic in India increased by 3.98 per cent compared to the same month last year, according to data released by the DGCA on November 18.

Over 1.23 crore passengers took to the skies in October compared to over 1.18 crore passengers in the same month last year, representing a growth of 3.98 per cent, as per data.

In September this year, the domestic passenger grew by a tepid 1.18 per cent compared to the same month last year with domestic airlines flying about 1.15 crore passengers.

The domestic air passenger traffic was at 1.17 crore passengers in August 19, 1.19 crore passengers in July 19 and 1.2 crore passengers during Jun 19.

While DGCA data revealed a slightly month on month decline in domestic passenger traffic in the past four months, total passengers traffic domestic airlines during the period January to October 2019 grew 3.1% to 11.82 crore passengers as against 11.46 crores in the corresponding period of the previous year. However at 11.46 crore passengers between Jan-Oct 2018, the air passenger traffic had recorded at whopping 20.8% growth over the corresponding period in 2017.

The aviation regulator also released data on which airline recorded the highest on-time performance, market share and airports that saw the most on-time flight traffic.

Market Share - InterGlobe Aviation Ltd owned IndiGo continued to domiante the skies with a commanding 47.4 per cent share of the domestic passenger market in October, the data revealed. SpiceJet improved its market share increased from 14.7 per cent in September to 16.3 per cent in October, bagging the second spot, as per the data.

The market share of Air India, GoAir, AirAsia and Vistara was 12.6 per cent, 11.2 per cent, 6.5 per cent and 5.4 per cent respectively last month.

Punctuality -GoAir reported the best on-time performance (OTP) at 79.9 per cent followed by IndiGo and Air Asia both of which were at 79.4 per cent while Vistara was at 76.4 per cent, SpiceJet (66.5 per cent) and Air India (54.3 per cent) at the four metro airports in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru.

Passenger Load Factor - Ajay Singh owned SpiceJet bagged the number one position when it came to passenger load factor registering a PLF of 90 per cent followed by IndiGo (85.1 per cent), GoAir (83.1 per cent), AirAsia (83 per cent), Vistara (77.9 per cent) and Air India (76 per cent). Passenger load factor shows how many of the total seats on offer by each airline are getting filled.

Grievance - Among major domestic airlines, Air India topped the list of passenger grievances with 1.6 complaints per 10,000 passengers in September, while SpiceJet was on number two position with 0.8 complaints per 10,000 passengers, as per DGCA data.
