‘DRDO Will Build The World’s Best Aircraft In Next 10 Years’: DRDO Chief Announces Ambitious Plan

The chairman of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), G Satheesh Reddy on Saturday (28 September) underscored the importance of indigenous defence production, reports Economic Times.

Highlighting that the indigenous production in defence manufacturing presently stands at just about 35-40 per cent, Reddy said that it was imperative for the nation to reduce its defence imports and become self-reliant in technology.

Reddy who also serves as a secretary for Research & Development (R&D) in the Department of Defence, said that over the next ten years DRDO will be producing the world's best aircraft.

While mentioning India’s LCA program, Reddy said that DRDO will introduce a number of aircraft in the next 10 years which will be the world’s best.

He also made mention of India's ability to build state-of-the-art ballistic and precision missile systems which place it among a coveted set of nations like Russia, the United States and China.

Further delving into India's ability to build any radar and state-of-the-art sonar, which is installed on ships and submarines, Reddy shared that even the imported submarines in the present day are fitted with indigenously built sonar systems.

Reddy was speaking at the 6th convocation of the National Institute of Technology, Shillong.
