Cable and DTH operators have started moving their customers to Best Fit plans as Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) deadline of 31 March has not been extended, Telecom Talk has reported.
Previously, the operators were charging their subscribers based on packages which also sometimes included channels not required by the subscribers. TRAI as a result instructed DTH operators to price channels on an individual basis allowing users a greater choice through viable pricing.
But subscribers who did not opt for the new tariff plans are now being moved to Best Fit plans. These plans are based on users choice of channels from previous subscriptions. Trai has also urged the DTH operators to make sure the best fit plans do not exceed the current pricing of the channel packages the customer is already using.
Users can also select channels by contacting their service provider or logging to the respective app or website.
Earlier the operators have approached Trai for extension in migrating the subscribers but telecom regulatory authority declined the request, it previously extended the deadline from 31 January to 31 March.
