NITI Aayog on Monday (7 June) released the annual plan for the gradual roll-out of E20 ethanol-blended petrol in the country by 2025, reports Livemint.
Releasing the annual plan, NITI Aayog said that the achievement of the E20 blending target by 2025 will lead to immense benefits like saving Rs 30,000 crore of foreign exchange per year, energy security, lower carbon emissions, better air quality, self-reliance, use of damaged foodgrains, increasing farmers' incomes, employment generation, and greater investment opportunities.
The plan released by NITI Aayog suggests specific responsibilities of union ministries, state governments and vehicle manufacturers for the production, supply and gradual rollout.
As per the plan, the pan-India ethanol production capacity will be raised from the current 700 crore litres to 1500 crore litres. Further, a phased rollout of E10 fuel will be undertaken by April 2022. Similarly, a phased rollout of E20 from April 2023 and its availability will be ensured by April 2025.
The rollout of E20 material-compliant and E10 engine-tuned vehicles will be done from April 2023. Following this, the production of E20-tuned engine vehicles will be facilitated from April 2025. A nationwide educational campaign will also be run in this regard.
