Shanti Nagar MLA and Congress leader N A Haris must be one happy man. Just prior to Eid, his son Mohammed Nalapad, who was arrested after he and his friends assaulted a fellow diner named Vidvat Lokanath at a brawl in a UB City cafe in Bengaluru, has been granted bail by the Karnataka High Court, says a report in Bangalore Mirror. Justice John Michael D’Cunha dictated the order.
The case is now set for trial as the charge-sheet has been filed. However, the court has imposed some conditions on Nalapad.
The basis for the award was the fact that Nalapad had been in custody for 116 days, and that ‘humanity suggests that bail be given’. It is learnt that the coalition government has decided not to challenge the bail award and instead focus on investing all resources to fight the trial.
Vidvat, the son of a city businessman, spent weeks in hospital recuperating. Several young men, who are sons of the rich and famous, were present at the cafe when the assault took place.
Following are the conditions imposed by the court on Nalapad:
* That he issue a bond of Rs 2,00,000 with two sureties.
* Whenever the court demands, he shall appear before it in connection with the case.
* He shall not tamper with evidence nor threaten, induce or allure prosecution witnesses.
* He shall not commit similar offences in future.
* He will not leave the jurisdiction of the trial court without its prior permission
