The reports submitted to the Election Commission by Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) across the states said that there was not even a single case of mismatch in the 20,265 VVPATs that were tallied, reports India Today. The EC has maintained a clinical record ever since the VVPATs were brought for the first time in 2013-14.
The general elections which spread over seven phases, saw the EC commissioning 22.3 lakh ballot units, 16.3 lakh control units and 17.3 lakh VVPATs. The Supreme Court (SC) ordered to carry out a tally of VVPATs of five polling stations from each assembly segment.
The SC order came after the opposition parties moved it, alleging that the EVMs and VVPAT alleging malfunctions and manipulations by the ruling government. Now, without a single trace of what has been a never-ending claim of the opposition parties, all the foul cry appears to be an excuse without substance.
