In an unprecedented development, the Indian government has now shown openness to the idea of third-party or international verification of terror infrastructure which exists in Pakistan, accorded to government sources who spoke with The Indian Express.

The facts raised in India’s dossier on the presence of terrorist facilities and camps on Pakistani territory can be verified independently by some countries who have excellent credentials. The important point to note here is that it is not possible for Indian officials to themselves travel to Pakistan and verify their assertions.

India has already shared essential details of its claims, such as the coordinates of terror camps, with the Pakistani government; these details can be subject to verification by a third party.

Also subject to verification must be Pakistan’s claims that it has already taken action against banned terror outfits in its territory. India has been demanding that such action be credible, verifiable and sustained.

There are several bodies which could be engaged with by India to verify Pakistan’s actions, such as the UN Security Council or other UN bodies, or the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). No such decision has been made regarding choosing any of these entities.
