External Affairs Minister Jaishankar Slams UNHRC For Criticism Over CAA, Abrogation Of Article 370 In J&K

Union Minister for External Affairs S Jaishankar on Saturday (7 March) slammed the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Backelet over criticism of the Indian Parliament's decisions on Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and abrogation of Article 370 of the Indian Constitution, reports Times of India.

Launching a blistering attack on the body Backelet heads, UNHRC, Jaishankar asserted, "UNHRC skirts around cross-border terrorism as if it has nothing to do with the country next door."

Jaishankar further added, "Please understand where they are coming from, look at UNHRC's record, how they handled the Kashmir issue in the past."

The criticism of UNHRC by Jaishankar came after Backelet led body had issued criticism of the abrogation of Article 370 and had also gone on to assert that UNHRC is planning to present itself as an amicus curiae in the Supreme Court against CAA.

Jaishankar also asked, "Show me a country in the world which says everybody in the world is welcome. Nobody says that."
