Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has been named among the 100 most powerful women of the world by Forbes magazine, reports India Today.

Besides Sitharaman, HCL corporation’s chief executive officer (CEO) and Executive Director Roshni Nadar Malhotra and Biocon founder Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw have also figured in the list.

According to the report, the Forbes 2019 list of 'The World's 100 Most Powerful Women' has been topped by German Chancellor Angela Merkel. The second spot in the list has been grabbed by European Central Bank’s President Christine Lagarde, who is followed by US House of Representatives’ Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has also marked her presence in the list and has been ranked as 29th most powerful woman in the world.

"In 2019, women around the globe took action, claiming leadership positions in government, business, philanthropy and media. These trailblazers are not to be messed with," Forbes said.

Finance Minister Sitharaman, who is a newcomer on the Forbes most powerful women list, has been ranked 34th. She has also served as India’s defence minister in the previous term of Modi government.

Other Indian Women in the list include HCL CEO Roshni Nadar Malhotra, who has been ranked at 54th position while Biocon founder Kiran Mazumdar Shaw has been ranked 65 on the list.
