Congress Left Red-Faced After Youth Leader, Son Of MLA N A Haris, Beats Up Man In Bengaluru

An FIR was registered on Saturday against Mohammed Haris Nalapad, son of Karnataka Congress MLA N A Harris, and his friends for allegedly beating up a man at an upscale restaurant and later at a hospital in Bengaluru, Zee News has reported.

Nalapad, who serves as the general secretary of the Bengaluru district Youth Congress, attacked the man with his supporters at a restaurant in UB City following a long-drawn argument. Nalapad and his friends had reportedly asked the man, who had a plaster on one of his legs, to “sit properly”.

The victim, identified as Dollars Colony resident Vidwath, was rushed to a nearby hospital. Nalapad and his supporters followed the Vidwath to the hospital and attacked him again. The group also tried to attack the victim’s brother.

Nalapad was appointed the general secretary of the youth Congress after emerging victorious in an election held for the post in May 2017.

After the opposition accused Congress lawmaker Harris of “trying to hush up the case” to save his son, the party suspended Nalapad for six years. Under pressure to act against Nalapad in an election year, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the offenders would be punished “regardless of who they are”.

Nalapad’s brother Umar was also accused of assaulting a man outside a pub in Bengaluru in 2016. The police had refused to file an FIR in the case.
