At least 19 people were killed, and many others were left injured at a coaching centre in Surat, Gujarat, a report from India Today reveals. The coaching centre was located on the third and fourth floors of the Taxshila complex in Sathana area.
“Fifteen people have died in the fire, toll may rise,” ANI quoted Surat Police Commissioner Satish Kumar Mishra. Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has ordered an investigation into the incident and also declared financial aid of Rs 4 lakh each to the children’s families who died in the incident, an official statement from CM’s office said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to express his deep anger over the incident and has directed authorities to provide all possible help.
Extremely anguished by the fire tragedy in Surat. My thoughts are with bereaved families. May the injured recover quickly. Have asked the Gujarat Government and local authorities to provide all possible assistance to those affected.

According to a fire official,19 fire tenders and two hydraulic platforms were rushed to the spot to douse the fire. Locals were seen giving a helping hand to the save stranded students alongside other occupants of the four-storey building. Initial investigations revealed a short circuit caused the fire.
