In a major development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a case in its probe into the alleged conspiracy behind the framing of former Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) scientist Nambi Narayanan in a 1994 espionage case, reports Hindustan Times.

This comes after a Supreme Court bench comprising Justices M Khanwilkar, Dinesh Maheshwari, and Krishna Murari had concluded the matter as 'serious' and ordered the CBI probe in the case on 15 April.

After going through the report of a court-appointed panel that looked into the role of the police officers, Supreme Court had accepted the findings and said that the CBI will be at the liberty to use the contents of the report for the registration of a preliminary inquiry for further investigation.

The top court had gone on to call the police action against Narayanan "psychological treatment". Earlier in September 2018, the top court haad also said that Narayanan's liberty and dignity, basic to his human rights, were jeopardised as he was taken into custody and, eventually, despite all the glory of the past, he was compelled to face “cynical abhorrence”.

In the case filed by it, CBI has booked some Kerala police officers, though it has not disclosed who they are.
