Two minor girls were burned alive in Gordaha of Katihar district in Bihar on Sunday night, reports Times of India. The reason for the act is believed to be a land dispute. Panjam Das, the father of the victims, told the police that some miscreants poured kerosene on his children while they were asleep at around 1.30 am. He said one of his daughters was physically challenged, but before they could douse the fire, it was too late.

The deceased have been identified as Preeti Kumari (3) and Kiran Kumari (one-and-a-half). Their charred bodies were sent to Sadar Hospital for post-mortem. Both the bodies suffered over 60 per cent burn injuries. The police have arrested a couple for the incident. They have been identified as Abdul Rehman and his wife Mokeem Akhtari.

According to police, Abdul bought the said piece of land from one Badri Thakur’s sister and it was on this land where Panjam and his family lived in a small asbestos-roof house. Panjam ran a small tea stall at his home to support his family. “Abdul and his henchmen allegedly threatened Panjam to vacate the land or else his house would be burned down,” Vikash Kumar, the SP of Katihar said.
