Global COVID-19 deaths have surpassed 290,000, reaching 291,961 on Wednesday (13 May), according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.
A total of 4,262,051 cases have been reported from over 180 countries and regions across the world, the CSSE data showed.
The number of people recovered from the disease has also reached around 15 lakh mark, with 1,493,450 recoveries reported globally.
The US reported the most COVID-19 deaths at 82,373 among 1,369,484 cases. Other countries with over 20,000 fatalities included Spain, Italy, Britain and France, according to the CSSE.
Meanwhile, with over 2.32 lakh total Covid-19 positive cases as on Tuesday (12 May), Russia surpassed Spain to become the second most Coronavirus-hit country in the world.
As of Wednesday, Russia has recorded as many as 232,243 cases, while Spain has reported 228,030 coronavirus cases.
The United States has the highest number of Coronavirus infected people in the world, with 1,369,484 cases reported so far.
