The overall number of global coronavirus cases has surpassed the 2.21 crore mark, while the deaths have increased to over 7.81 lakh, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
As of Wednesday (19 August) evening, the total number of cases stood at 22,161,889 and the fatalities rose to 781,466, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed in its latest update.
As many as 14,131,798 people have recovered from the disease globally so far.
The US accounted for the world's highest number of infections and fatalities at 5,482,602 and 171,823, respectively, according to the CSSE.
Brazil came in the second place with 3,407,354 infections and 109,888 deaths.
In terms of cases, India ranks third (2,767,253), and is followed by Russia (935,066), South Africa (592,144), Peru (549,321), Mexico (531,239), Colombia (489,122), Chile (388,855), Spain (364,196), Iran (347,835), the UK (322,177), Argentina (305,966), Saudi Arabia (301,323), Pakistan (290,445), Bangladesh (282,344), France (256,534), Italy (254,636), Turkey (251,805), Germany (228,129), Iraq (184,709), Philippines (173,774), Indonesia (144,945), Canada (125,084) and Qatar (115,661), the CSSE figures showed.
The other countries with over 10,000 deaths are the Mexico (57,774), India (52,888), UK (41,466), Italy (35,405), France (30,434), Spain (28,670), Peru (26,658), Iran (19,972), Russia (15,951), Colombia (15,619), South Africa (12,264) and Chile (10,546).
