News and social media platform Twitter is testing a new feature for its application on Android that will bring news on the top of the timeline so that users are updated with happenings around the world, Tribune India reports.
Wally Gurzynski, product manager at Twitter, was quoted by Mashable on Tuesday (29 January) saying, “With this update, we're making it easier for people to see the news and stories their followers have been discussing while they've been away right at the top of their timeline.”
The feature will come with a prompt saying, "Catch up on what's happened while you were away."
In 2015 and 2016, the site had launched features of “ While you were away" and "Never miss an important tweet” to highlight the latest news but were not able to make a significant impact.
The new feature will focus on news stories from news media agencies and organisations rather than only bring up interesting and favourite tweets. The report said that the ‘catching-up with news’ trial feature goes along the lines of various tests that the micro-blogging site is running.
The move aims to make it easier to follow specific conversations as well as newsworthy events across the world for android twitter users. For iOS users, the feature-test roll out and the final plans are currently unclear.
