Multinational Software giant Google has hired over a dozen microchip engineers in Bengaluru recently, the Times of India has reported. The company is planning to rapidly increase the number based on LinkedIn profiles, job postings and two industry executives.
The hiring of microchip engineers is a part of the company’s plan to design guts of its devices internally, and Google has already hired at least 16 engineering veterans and four talent recruiters from India’s Silicon city for the gChips team.
The report also mentions the profile of Rajat Bhargava on LinkedIn, where he describes himself as the lead of the company’s silicon site in the city. According to his profile, he joined in May 2018, after serving at Broadcom for a decade and a year at Intel.
According to a recent check of the career website of the company, Google had 13 job postings for jobs related to chips in Bengaluru.
Big companies like Microsoft Corporation, Amazon, Apple and Facebook all have initiated their efforts to design chips and reduce costs and dependence on vendors.
