Child deaths during treatment at Gorakhpur’s Baba Raghav Das Medical College (BRD) medical college are far less as compared to the deaths in the corresponding months in the previous years, hospital data has revealed, according to the Hindustan Times.

According to the daily’s report, at least 587 and 601 children had died in August and Sepetember 2016, respectively. The number of casualties dropped sharply in both August and September this year as compared to previous years. While 418 child deaths were recorded in August, 433 children died in September 2017.

The hospital had recorded 567 and 668 child deaths in August 2014 and 2015. In September 2014 and 2015, the hospital reported 563 and 635 child deaths. Therefore, the numbers of child deaths has decreased drastically compared to the last few years, when the state had a Samajwadi Party government led by Akhilesh Yadav.

The medical college was recently in the news over the death of 30 children due to alleged disruption in oxygen supply on 10 and 11 August.
