Green Public Transport For Delhi: Indian Oil Corporation To Procure 15 Hydrogen-Powered Buses For National Capital

In a positive development, Delhi is set to become the first city in the country to see hydrogen driven environment-friendly buses plying on its roads, reports Economic Times.

Pioneering the efforts towards hydrogen driven mobility options in the country, central public sector undertaking (PSU) Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) will be procuring 15 buses kitted with polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells.

It should be noted that the buses will have IOC built fuel cell stack/system technology which has been indigenously developed and manufactured. The buses will be evaluated in collaboration with select original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) partners of IOC by means of large scale field validation exercise in Delhi-NCR region.

IOC's chairman SM Vaidya has said in a statement that the exercise is a part of a bigger project addressing all the aspects of the hydrogen value chain as the ultimate green option.

To ensure the required set up to refuel the buses with hydrogen supply, IOC is also building demo units for different pathways with a capacity to produce approximately a tonne per day of hydrogen at its state-of-the-art research and development (R&D) centre in Haryana's Faridabad.
